Airscanner Vulnerability Summary: Windows Mobile Security Software Fails the Test

Every once in a while I come across something that seems so glaringly obvious to me that I don’t know how the industry doesn’t stand up and smack itself silly. While I was hitting up the google customized homepage I have I noticed a link on slashdot to this article from msmobiles.com. Like most slashdotters I rarely RTFA but, in this case the story seemed to warrant a read and I’m glad I did. Airscanner has put together an excellent article on the security within our mobile devices and why we as users really need to stand up and say "enough is enough"! Since my degree focused on security I have to admit not all of this shocked me and some of it I had already delved into, but to hear it brought forward by a company like airscanner it really validates the problems and hopefully will help the industry correct the issues before we all fall victim to the problems of a full fledged Windows client.

Read on for a little piece of knowledge that might not let you sleep well tonight.

Great post Netsyd. I agree that this is not surprising really – given that much more mature and mainstream software for PCs still often has gaping security holes. And I definitely agree that it is good to see Airscanner shedding some light in this area. I think this is going to be a long, slow process with mobile software – but reports like this will hopefully help to get the ball rolling a little quicker.
