Spybot S&D for Windows Mobile
Via: Aximsite.com
Thanks to Akheron at Aximsite for the post on this. Spybot S&D has been a hugely popular (freeware) anti-malware tool for years – tried and trusted by many. And now they’ve released versions for Windows Mobile and Smartphone, and even Symbian OS.
Many will immediately point out that there is little or no threat to mobile devices in this area. That’s true for now – but with spyware / malware in particular (moreso than with viruses) with the leading attack medium being a browser, it does seem like this may well become an issue we’ll need to worry about in future.
Anyway, it’s cool to see an old favorite in this area bringing out a mobile version. Just tried it on my Axim and – surprise, surprise – no threats found. Spybot installed easily, took over 15 minutes to scan the device (which seems fair with the system resources of a PPC), and made the Axim a fair bit more sluggish during scanning, but not ridiculously slow.

As you can see, the menu is pretty basic for now. I suppose if we start seeing a lot more options to configure here, that will likely mean there are some genuine threats out there for mobile devices.

Fingers crossed, hoping that we don’t have to use this for a long long time.
