Background Music During Your Cell Calls?
Source: Cellebrum.com
Via: Mobhappy.com
"Background tones are music that plays in the background while you are talking on the phone. Cellebrum, the tech providers, say that they have over 1 million subscribers in India, with 3 million downloads and the typical pattern is to change
tones once or twice a month"
MobHappy has a piece up on background tones – music or religious chants / other general sound effects playing during a cell call – being a growing trend in India and possibly being set to catch on elsewhere.
I feel pressured already. I’m voting against this for now. It’s bad enough when I occasionally get sucked into the ‘gotta have a cool ringtone’ frame of mind. And then, at least in my case, I rapidly find out that my ‘Always Look on the Bright Side of Life’ theme is just not funny. But now we’ve got to pick out cool / acceptable / non-irritating background music too? Background music that will not scare off a prospective client / partner etc with our oddball tastes, keep our background music so vanilla that we don’t run any risks? Marvelous.
Anyway, if you want to hear more about this possibly growing trend, check the MobHappy piece and some links there to suppliers of the background tones services:

Why must all progress be irritating? Very soon you’ll find that your phone converstation is interrupted and advertisements piped in every 20 seconds or so. Then everybody would be happy.

I would like to win Agenda Fusion. Did I win?? Did I win?? Sorry, this product seemed so ridiculous, I figured it had to be some kind of a joke or something…

What a nasty idea. People are already yelling into their phones because they can’t hear with all the ambient noise. Do we really need more interference with hearing our calls?

Greenhex, I was just joking in my previous comment.
Seriously, though, does anyone really need music playing in the background on their cell phone?? I have enough trouble figuring out ringers.

I would tend to agree with all of you so far – this does sound pretty irritating. Can maybe see the appeal to younger / non-business cell users, but even there …
