Webaroo – Major Update Version

Now you can save offline copies of web-sites that go 5 links deep, and you can choose to save common filetypes as well – like docs, pdfs, and audio / video files.

Webaroo has already been an interesting and useful application to me, since I started trying it out – as mentioned in a previous post.

Now a major new update for Webaroo has been released, and it looks to have some very significant improvements, and ones that may help a lot in terms of its usefulness on a mobile device.

Read on for more on the improvements in this update …

If you don’t already know about Webaroo, what it does is allows you to download offline versions of entire web-sites (to a given link level deep), or even ‘web packs’ that cover an entire subject area. Wikipedia, for instance, is a 6gb web pack download.

It works very nicely with mobile devices – installs easily, and allows you to copy / sync your library to your handheld. Now, with the ability to go up to 5 links deep when saving a site, and to grab common file types as well, this could really become an excellent offline reference resource.

For anyone who works in a sort of technical role, this could be especially valuable. If you’re using a non-connected PDA, and have a large enough storage card, you’ve got a great potential knowledgebase and technical reference library.  Even if you do have a smartphone that’s always connected, Webaroo offers a big benefit in speed of browsing, as now you’ve got everything held locally on the device.

And, here’s a list of some of the enhancements in this latest update:

  • Download sites at up to 5 link levels deep
  • Also get common file types – .doc, .pdf – and audio and video files
  • Browser button than be added to IE / Firefox toolbars
  • Schedule updates (to site content)
  • Change the location where Webaroo content is stored, and get alerts when you approach maximum disk space thresholds
  • Import browser bookmarks
  • Interactive updates and notifications

Webaroo is well worth a look, for use on a laptop, or on a mobile device, and this latest update makes it even more powerful.  And it’s FREE. To get more info, and download it, go to:
