DPAD=1 (0 or 1)
Set DPAD to 1 if you want to use dpad to do some actions in phone app:
Default setting is
Up: Quick Dial
Left: Messaging
Right: Contacts
Down: Call Log

I had heard about this utility app quite a while back, but shied away because it sounded very ‘Alpha’ in nature.  Saw it mentioned again on Solsie’s blog recently, and had to check it out this time.

And I am so glad I did.  This little utility is just superb on a Cingular 8125 (HTC Wizard).

By default, it does three excellent things to increase the ease-of-use on your Wizard.

• Makes a Press and Hold on the left SoftKey bring up the Today menu
• Makes Press and Hold on the right Soft Key close the current / open program
• Makes the volume hardware button double as a page up / page down slider  

The program is freeware, developed by Water, a member at the forum.xda-developers.com. The ‘install’ is simple – copy two files to a directory (on a storage card if you like) and launch smarskey from that directory on your device. Done. Copy over a third file if you want to try out its overclocking features. 

It also has an editable .ini file and a basic but very effective Readme file, which documents a good number of other extremely nice tweaks you can set within the app, just by a quick edit of the .ini file (like the little excerpt shown at the top of this post).

I am a huge fan of anything that enhances one-handed use of a smartphone device, and this little app does definitely fits the bill.
