Review: Short Take on Instant Text Mobile for Palm OS5

Instant Text Mobile for Palm OS5 is relatively expensive (USD 29.00) but once you use it, you’ll surely be hooked. It provides a fast, accurate and consistent method of entering text into your palm device.
This nifty utility from Textware Solutions is an offshoot of a previous pen computing initiative – and from the blurb appears to have been in development since 1995 – uses a patented "Jump Ahead" technique that can only be described as magical!
Textware Solutions also market the popular and well-loved Fitaly keyboard for Pocket PCs.
What one sees is quite simple: when you type something, you get a pop-up that lists suggestions of both words and phrases for completion of the word, you can use the 5-way to navigate, select and enter the word. That’s it!
With this software, one can reduce typing to less than 10% of what you would normally require to enter text. The included and customizable professional glossaries come in handy while entering special or accented technical terms and phrases (medical, legal, engineering etc.). No longer does one have to balk at entering the Minutes-of-Meeting or replying to email on the palm handheld. And there’s so much less wear-and-tear to the fragile palm keyboard… and less spelling mistakes.
Yes, it has all the bells and whistles: interface customization, command-bar customization, customizable professional glossaries & phrase lists, selection of applications for activation, macros & special functions ( this can keep one occupied for a l-o-n-g time!) and an interface software for Microsoft Windows™ that makes building word lists a snap.
It is not too heavy on the resources either. The PRC takes-up 185 KB and some 5 KB to 200 KB for each of the included glossaries. PalmInternals Speed Test reports that the keypress events extraction has increased from 36 to 52, which is reasonable for such an utility. During testing, the trial software did not crash my Treo.
Summary:
So, how does it compare with other similar text-completion utilities? This is a professional grade tool that is miles ahead in every way. Instant Text Mobile provides a rapid and accurate method of entering text into your Palm device.
