Here’s Hoping Next Ipaq Is a Big Success

Ipaq 3600Have started seeing some posts over at Mobility Today about people receiving their new Ipaq 69xx series devices. The spec on these seems pretty impressive, although they look a bit chunky in the photos I’ve seen.

Seeing those posts got me thinking about Ipaqs. I owned several generations worth of Ipaqs and still have a ton of fond memories and feelings for them.

They were the first real ‘gotta have it’ Pocket PCs to give Palm Pilots a run for their money. Not so long ago, each new generation of Ipaq would have THE latest and greatest spec of any Pocket PC around. The best color screens, largest amount of available memory, nice software add-ins and so on.

Now they’re not such a leader anymore – with Dell and others setting the pace in non-connected PDAs, and Treos and various HTC devices grabbing more attention in the converged device area.

I’m not hugely tempted to go get one of the 6900 series myself, but I do hope the series is a success.

I would just like to see Ipaqs do well, get back some of their swagger and continue to be a leading name in the Pocket PC and smartphones arena.  Ipaqs are sort of the Grand Old Lady of Windows-flavored handhelds – here’s hoping they still have a lot of years of success ahead of them.
