Another ‘Man Law’ Needed – for Mobile Geeks?

"The number of gadgets we’re carrying around on a daily basis–from BlackBerrys and cell phones to iPods and PDAs–means men may be forced to embrace the metrosexual phenomenon of the "manbag."

CNetNews.com is reporting that PDAs, smartphones etc clipped to our belts are on the way out, and ‘manbags’ are in.

So, this reminds me of the (pretty irritating) ‘Man Law’ TV ads from Miller Lite – where a goup of (I guess) the roughest, toughest guys you could ever assemble round a square table sit around and pass righteous judgements on all aspects of proper ‘manly’ behavior and such.

Do we need a new Man Law covering how to refer to manbags? Can we get an advert with all those guys sitting round with their Blackberries / Sidekicks / Treos / HTC Wizards and Warlocks and so on, and clutching their manbags holding all the essential accessories for their devices? Could we maybe get a consensus that these really need to be referred to as ‘Gear Bags‘ from here on out?

I heard Chris, Jack, Don, Steven – on a recent ‘Mobility Guys’ podcast – talking about all the very cool things they carry to make it through the day or a long trip. I’m pretty sure the terms used were Gadget Bag and Gear Bag and similar.

I have a feeling this is an important issue. I know that my wife already refers to any PDA or phone case that I own as a ‘purse’. We’ve talked about it. Several times. Agreed that these are *needed* accessories. They protect your investment of time, money, and love in your latest, greatest device etc. She agrees with all of that wholeheartedly. But if I leave one on the kitchen counter, either my wife or daughter will soon tell me (with big smiles) that I’ve forgotten my purse.

Yeah, I’m thinking a Man Law for this would not be a bad thing. Anybody got any thoughts, know how to get in touch with the Square Table lads?

I really don’t care what it’s called. My wife and I call it a purse. I have been carring it for about a year now. I find it a great relief getting all that stuff out of my pockets and from around my waist. And really I am the same guy that I was before I started carring a PURSE. I find it handy and convienent. never again will I go anywhere without my purse. Like it or not Boys the times they are a changing

Men already have a counterpart to the purse: the briefcase. Get one with padding and storage areas for electronics. You say, but what about when I’m not going to work and don’t want my briefcase? I say: 1) how the hell can you afford all the gadgets that make a manbag necessary if you’re not working? and 2) just how much electronics do you need to go to the mall?

I refuse to carry a Man Purse as well. I will wear extra pockets on my pants,shirt or jacket, but not carry a purse. I do think that a back pack is acceptable for men, but that is as far as it should go.Back Packs show that you are ready and rought. Going camping, hiking or bikeing with a back pack is a manly thing. Womn carring a back pack are seen as Tom Boys. So carrying a back pack over one shoulder will speak to our roughness!

Agreed. Just stop being sissy with these purses. I think that Men should be Men. Get a belt clip and put it in your jacket pocket, don’t carry a “Purse” because it is convient. I am sure Skirts are more comfy then pants, but would you wear one of those?
