Need Help Making Exchange DirectPush to Mobiles Work?
Source: msexchange.org
“The DirectPush technology keeps your mobile device up-to-date by delivering e-mail, Calendar, Contacts and Tasks directly to your device …”
If you’re a Network Manager or similar looking to turn on Microsoft’s new DirectPush technology to keep all your Windows Mobile devices and smartphones always up to date, or just looking for some guidance on what’s involved and how you do it, here’s a great starting point: an article posted by Henrik Walther as part of a 5-part series over at the always-excellent MSExchange.org site.
The piece lays out how synchronization tended to work before DirectPush and why it was inefficient and lacking, what is required to get it going at the server and device end, some security best practice hints, and some important firewall tips to help maximize the efficiency of syncronization and device battery life and data usage.
It also highlights that implementing this technology will achieve the following goals for your mobile messaging environment:
- A standard data plan is the only subscription you need to synchronize with Exchange (which must work globally)
- No need to deploy additional infrastructure in your Exchange environment
- No need for SMS notification or any other “out-of-band” schemes
- No special configuration on the device
The MSExchange.org site is a great resource all the way around, and this article is very well wriitten and a great reference for anyone starting to look at deploying DirectPush.
